Forbes Design Test

Article Layout

For desktop and mobile layouts, I wanted to keep the design relatively simple. The subject matter (both tv crime dramas and BLM protests) should be familiar with the majority of readers so I chose the fewest photos to fully tell the story. For the main image, I used the only image provide that featured Dick Wolf since the article is really about the evolution of his shows. A few of the provided protest images had an us vs them feeling and I wanted to use ones that didn’t focus on that aspect of the protests. I designed these without any ads since no parameters were given but realize this could change how I’d layout the article, particularly the use of images in the right column on the desktop site.

Editorial Images

Throughout the article, several mentions are made to Law & Order’s use of modern storylines. I thought the vintage style tv with the picture of the cast from the early years and the modern tv paired with a photo representing current events was a great way to visually show this. The main subject’s arm coming out of the screen highlights that these events are coming to life before our eyes.

Instagram Story

I chose to create four cards for the instagram story. The first card briefly introduces the reader to the content through a simple question. The second and third cards give a little more information by using content from the article. The final card matches the desktop and mobile designs. I used color to tie each card together.
